Getting to Gatwick over Christmas 2026: trains day by day, and the fixed fare when they stop

Gatwick is London's second airport and its busiest for Christmas sun and ski departures, and its rail links are among the most disrupted over the holiday: nothing on Christmas Day, a skeleton on Boxing Day, and Thameslink core or Victoria works in the days between. Here is the day-by-day picture and the fixed-fare road alternative from central and south London.

Govia Thameslink Railway publishes its Christmas timetable in late November; we update from it.

Victoria and London Bridge works

Gatwick has two rail routes into London — the Brighton Main Line into Victoria (Gatwick Express, Southern) and the Thameslink route through London Bridge and the core to St Pancras. Christmas works tend to hit one or the other, and occasionally both: the Thameslink core has closed over several recent New Year weekends, and Victoria has had partial closures over Christmas week. When one route is out, the other is overloaded. Confirmed 2026/27 dates will appear on the engineering works page.

Gatwick drop-off charge reminder

Gatwick charges every vehicle entering the terminal forecourts (£7 for up to 10 minutes at the time of writing). Our fixed price is confirmed as a total at booking and we do not add airport charges to it afterwards — check the same is true of any other quote. If someone is dropping you off in a private car over Christmas, budget for it.
