Boxing Day taxi in London: sales, stadiums and family visits without the Sunday-service scrum
Boxing Day has three things going on at once — the sales, a full football programme and the second round of family visits — and it does them on a Sunday-level Tube with most of the railway closed. A pre-booked car with a fixed price turns a day of waiting on platforms into a day of actually doing the things.
What public transport does on Boxing Day (Sunday service, rail mostly closed)
Saturday 26 December 2026 is Boxing Day for transport purposes. The Tube, DLR, Overground and buses run a reduced Sunday-style service with later starts. Most National Rail operators run no trains at all, which cuts off the Home Counties and the outer suburbs served only by rail. Boxing Day sales: Oxford Street, Westfield and Bicester Village drop-offs
Oxford Street and Regent Street
Christmas 2026 is the first with Oxford Street pedestrianised: from late October the section from Orchard Street (Selfridges) to Great Portland Street, Oxford Circus included, is closed to all traffic. Drop-offs are on the cross-streets (Duke Street, Davies Street, Stratford Place, Holles Street, Harewood Place); pickups at a fixed point once you are done with the bags. Westfield London and Westfield Stratford
Both have proper drop-off zones and open normal Boxing Day hours. An MPV for the return leg is the sensible booking.
Bicester Village
Sixty miles from central London, with a fixed-fare day return from about £180 for a saloon including waiting. A comfortable alternative to the Chiltern train that may not be running.
Boxing Day football: Premier League fixtures and stadium pickups
Boxing Day traditionally carries a full Premier League and EFL programme, and in 2026 the London clubs' fixtures will be confirmed in early December. Emirates, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Stamford Bridge, London Stadium, Selhurst Park, Craven Cottage, Brentford and the Den all have agreed pickup points that work after the final whistle. Family visits across London and the Home Counties
The second day of family visits is where the missing trains bite hardest: Surrey, Kent, Hertfordshire and Essex are effectively cut off by rail. A fixed-fare car from London to Guildford, Sevenoaks, St Albans or Chelmsford is from about £75–£95 in a saloon, and the return can be booked at the same time so nobody has to be the designated driver.

- Are the shops open on Boxing Day in London?
- Most large stores and both Westfield centres open on Boxing Day with sale hours, typically from 9am or 10am. Some independent shops and department stores choose to stay closed; check before you travel.
- Can you take us to Bicester Village and back on Boxing Day?
- Yes. A fixed-fare day return including waiting time is quoted at booking; an MPV is recommended for the return leg.
- Is there football on Boxing Day 2026?

- Is the fare really fixed over Christmas and New Year?
- Yes. The price you see when you confirm the booking is the price you pay. It does not change with traffic, weather, flight delays or the date. What you may see is a different from-price for the peak days than for a Tuesday in March — that is set when you get your quote, not added afterwards.
- How far ahead should I book?
- For 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 January we allocate a fixed number of vehicles and drivers, and once they are gone we cannot add more. Book by 20 December for Christmas and by 15 December for New Year's Eve to be safe; we will always try to help later than that, but cannot guarantee it.
