Getting to Goodwood: the travel guide
Everything you need to plan travel to Goodwood in West Sussex — the Festival of Speed, the Revival, the Members' Meeting and Glorious Goodwood racing. Below: the honest by-train route (London to Chichester, then the last few miles), what event-day traffic really does, and the door-to-door alternative — a fixed-price RushXO chauffeur from London from £135, with zero event-day surge. Around 65 miles, 1h 45m–2h 30m by road.
The events
Know your Goodwood
The Goodwood Estate near Chichester, West Sussex hosts four headline gatherings, and which one you're attending changes the travel plan — the motor circuit, the hillclimb course and the racecourse are different parts of the estate with different entrances:
- Members' Meeting (spring) — historic racing at the motor circuit; the most relaxed traffic of the four.
- Festival of Speed (July) — the hillclimb at Goodwood House; the biggest crowds and the heaviest roads.
- Glorious Goodwood — the Qatar Goodwood Festival (late July/early August) — five days of flat racing at the racecourse, high on the Downs.
- Goodwood Revival (September) — vintage racing in period dress at the motor circuit; arrivals in style are half the point.
Check your ticket for the correct entrance and car park before planning the last mile — and if we're driving you, just forward the ticket and we'll route to the right gate.
By train
Goodwood by train — the honest guide
There's no station at Goodwood itself. The by-train route is: London Victoria (or Clapham Junction) → Chichester, direct services taking roughly 1h 30m–1h 45m, then the final 4–6 miles up to the estate by event shuttle or taxi.
What works
For the big events, shuttle buses usually link Chichester station with the venue — check the event's official travel page for dates and times, as provision varies by event and day. Trains sidestep the worst of the A27 event traffic, and Chichester itself is a pleasant base.
What catches people out
Shuttle queues peak at opening and closing; last trains back to London leave earlier than a long summer evening feels; Sunday engineering works love this line; and after the Revival's evening events, a pre-booked car beats a taxi-app scramble in a field. If you're in period dress or race-day tailoring, factor the shuttle-and-walk into shoe choices.
A neat hybrid many regulars use: train down, RushXO home — fresh legs in the morning, a pre-booked fixed-fare car waiting at the estate when the last race finishes.
By car & chauffeur
Door to gate, on a fixed fare
By road, Goodwood is about 65 miles from central London — A3 then A27/A285, typically 1h 45m–2h 30m, longer on Festival of Speed mornings when the local lanes queue. A RushXO transfer takes the whole problem off your hands: door-to-gate, drop-off at the correct entrance for your ticket, and a pre-booked return waiting when racing ends — at a price fixed weeks earlier, immune to event-day surge.
- Central London → Goodwood from £135 (saloon, up to 4) — Executive and VIP for owners, sponsors and box guests.
- 8-seater from £195 — the whole party travels together; picnic hampers welcome in the boot.
- Multi-day event packages — same driver each day of the Festival or Revival, quoted as one fixed price.
- Local legs — Chichester hotels ↔ the estate from £20, so an overnight stay works seamlessly.

FAQ
Goodwood travel frequently asked questions
How do I get to Goodwood by train?
Take a direct service from London Victoria to Chichester (roughly 1h 30m–1h 45m), then cover the last 4–6 miles by event shuttle or a pre-booked car — Chichester to the estate is from £20 with us. Check the event's official travel page for shuttle dates and times, as provision varies.
How much is a taxi from London to Goodwood?
A fixed-price saloon from central London is from £135, the 8-seater from £195 — agreed at booking with no event-day surge. Executive and VIP cars are available for race-day and hospitality arrivals.
How long does it take to drive from London to Goodwood?
Usually 1h 45m–2h 30m via the A3 and A27. On Festival of Speed and Revival mornings the final miles queue, so we schedule earlier pickups around gate-opening times — the fixed fare doesn't change however long the lanes take.
Which entrance do I need at Goodwood?
It depends on the event: the motor circuit hosts the Revival and Members' Meeting, the hillclimb at Goodwood House hosts the Festival of Speed, and the racecourse on the Downs hosts Glorious Goodwood. Your ticket names the entrance and car park — forward it to us and your driver routes to the right gate.
Can you pick us up after the last race?
Yes — that's the booking regulars make first. Your return is pre-booked at a fixed price, the driver positions before the finish, and you skip the taxi-app scramble that follows every big Goodwood day. Late Revival evenings are covered too.
Can a group travel together to Goodwood?
Yes — the MPV 6-seater and 8-seater carry the whole party (and the picnic) on one fixed fare from £195 out of London. For corporate hospitality we run multi-vehicle manifests timed together.
Is the train or a car better for Goodwood?
One person on a shuttle-served day: the train is decent value. Groups, hospitality guests, period dress, or anyone staying to the end: door-to-gate wins. The hybrid — train down, fixed-price car home — is the connoisseur's compromise, and we're happy to quote just the return leg.
