Bicester Village is the open-air designer outlet on the edge of Bicester in Oxfordshire, part of The Bicester Collection run by Value Retail. More than 160 boutiques offer luxury and premium brands with substantial savings year-round, set out along a pretty pedestrian street with restaurants and cafes — which is why it draws shoppers from across the world, many heading straight from Heathrow.
This guide covers what to expect, the brands and services, opening hours and the practical business of getting there with shopping bags in tow — where a door-to-door car really comes into its own.
About Bicester Village
Opened in 1995, Bicester Village has grown into one of Europe’s best-known outlet destinations. It is laid out as a single attractive street of boutiques rather than an indoor mall, with the feel of a village rather than a shopping centre. Brands span luxury fashion, accessories, homeware and more, typically with year-round reductions on previous-season collections — the draw that fills its car parks and the on-site railway station every day of the week.
What to expect: brands, dining & services
Expect 160-plus boutiques from established luxury houses to contemporary favourites, plus a strong line-up of cafes and restaurants for a break between shops. Useful services include hands-free shopping (your bags are held and can be delivered), tax-free shopping assistance for overseas visitors, a concierge, and multilingual staff. It is comfortably a full day if you are a serious shopper, or a relaxed half-day combined with Oxford or Blenheim Palace nearby.
- 160+ designer boutiques at outlet prices.
- Dining — cafes and restaurants across the village.
- Hands-free shopping & delivery, concierge and tax-free services.
Opening hours & when to go
Bicester Village is open seven days a week, typically from mid-morning to evening, with extended hours in peak periods such as the run-up to Christmas and the sale seasons. Weekdays are quieter than weekends; early in the day is calmest of all. As ever, check the latest hours before you travel, as they vary by season and bank holidays.
Getting to Bicester Village
Bicester sits about 65 miles north-west of central London, postcode OX26 6WD, just off the M40.
By road
From London it is the M40 to Junction 9, then a short run into the village; from the Midlands the M40 southbound. There is large on-site parking, but it fills quickly at weekends and in the Christmas period, and the approach roads can back up at peak times.
By train
Unusually for a shopping destination, Bicester Village has its own railway station right beside the boutiques, with Chiltern Railways services from London Marylebone in around 46 minutes. It is excellent if you travel light — less so on the way home, laden with bags, facing a busy platform.
By air, and the private-hire alternative
Bicester is a famous Heathrow day trip, about 50 miles from Heathrow, with Birmingham and Luton also close. A pre-booked car is the natural choice when you plan to shop: a fixed-fare transfer to Bicester Village drops you at the entrance, waits while you shop and carries the bags home — no juggling carriers onto a train.
The easy way to shop the Village
Fixed-price, pre-booked transfers to Bicester Village (OX26 6WD) — executive cars for couples, MPVs and minibuses for groups, no surge and no late-night premium. Add a wait-and-return and the same driver holds the boot for your bags and takes you home, with Oxford or Blenheim easy to add on.
Get a fixed Bicester Village farePractical tips
- Go on a weekday morning. Weekends and December are the busiest — early on a weekday is calmest and the parking easiest.
- Use hands-free shopping. Let the boutiques hold your bags so you are not carrying carriers all day.
- Plan the journey home laden. The train is quick but awkward with bags; a wait-and-return car holds everything in the boot.
- Pair it with Oxford. Oxford and Blenheim Palace are close — an easy add-on with a car for the day.
