Call the line first
Whether it is a cruise or a Channel ferry, the operator has a shoreside number on your booking. Ring it before anything else — they will tell you whether you can board at the next call, and ferries will usually simply move you to a later sailing.
Ferries: you are probably fine
If you have missed a Dover–Calais or Dover–Dunkirk crossing, the operators run frequently and will normally roll you onto the next available sailing, sometimes for a fee. The bigger problem is usually onward connections on the other side.
Cruises: the next port matters
Dover cruise departures typically call first at a near-continent port — Zeebrugge, Amsterdam, Le Havre — or head north to Norway. You can join at a later port with the line’s agreement, which usually means getting to an airport quickly.
- Dover to Gatwick: roughly 90 minutes, fixed fare, any hour.
- Dover to Heathrow: roughly two hours.
- Dover to London: for a Eurostar connection to a continental port.
At the terminal now? WhatsApp us. Fixed fare agreed before the driver moves, 24 hours a day. We are a Kent operator — Dover is our home turf.
Keep the receipts
Missed-departure cover is standard on most travel insurance and cruise policies. We will send a proper VAT invoice for the journey.
