Gatwick to Luton — up and around the M25
Gatwick sits about 28 miles south of London; Luton is about 30 miles north of it. There is no road through the middle, so the drive goes around the capital on the M25 — turning a 48-mile straight line into roughly 70 miles of motorway. Coming out of Gatwick the sequence is the mirror image of the southbound run.
Timing it
Off-peak the drive is 75 to 85 minutes; ordinary daytime traffic makes it 85 to 100; weekday peaks between 07:00–09:30 and 16:00–19:00 can stretch it to two hours. The pinch points northbound are the M25 approach to Heathrow and the J21 merge with the M1.
Because the fare is fixed at booking, none of that costs you anything extra. We plan to the realistic time rather than the optimistic one.
| When you travel | Typical door-to-door | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Before 06:30 | 75–85 min | Clear M25 — ideal for an early Luton departure. |
| 07:00–09:30 weekday | 100–125 min | Heathrow-side commuter peak northbound. |
| 10:00–15:30 | 85–100 min | The most predictable window of the day. |
| 16:00–19:00 weekday | 100–130 min | Evening peak; worst on a Friday. |
| After 20:00 & overnight | 75–90 min | Quiet, but watch for overnight M25 lane closures. |

We meet you inside arrivals — North or South
Gatwick's two terminals are a three-minute automated shuttle apart, and your driver needs to be in the right one. Tell us the terminal at booking — it is on your airline confirmation — and we are waiting in that arrivals hall when you clear customs.
North Terminal arrivals
British Airways (long-haul), TUI, Norwegian, WestJet and some easyJet routes.
Driver inside North arrivals with a name board, luggage carried to the car in the short-stay car park alongside.
South Terminal arrivals
easyJet (most routes), Ryanair, Vueling, British Airways short-haul and others.
The busier hall, because it connects straight to Gatwick railway station. An inside meet-and-greet avoids the crowded forecourt entirely.
Arriving at Luton's single terminal
Luton has one passenger terminal, so the drop-off is simple: we take you to the departures door and help with the luggage. No terminal to pick, no shuttle to catch.
Luton charges £7 for up to 10 minutes in the terminal drop-off zone, then £1 per additional minute, ANPR-enforced with no barriers; unpaid it becomes a £95 Parking Charge Notice (£55 if paid within 14 days), payable by midnight the day after your visit. The Mid Stay car park is the free short-waiting alternative with a shuttle. Charges are set by the airport, not by RushXO, and any applicable charge is accounted for in your fixed fare — there is nothing to settle on the day.
If you are connecting onto a Luton departure, allow the two hours Luton asks for before a short-haul flight, and remember bag drop closes 40 minutes before departure and does not reopen.
Connecting? Leave five hours
Gatwick and Luton are separate airports on separate tickets — no airline protects the connection. Allow up to an hour for immigration and baggage at Gatwick, up to two hours on the road, and two hours at Luton. Five hours between the two scheduled times is comfortable rather than generous; six or more in winter.

Booking both legs
If you are running out to Luton and back, book both legs on one reference and give us both flight numbers. We track both, so a delay on the first automatically moves the second pickup — and you are not re-explaining the trip to a controller at midnight.
