For the fortnight, SW19 stops being a suburb and becomes a venue, and the transport around it changes character completely. Roads close. Drop-off points move. The District line does heroic work and is still unpleasant with a bag at six in the evening. And the fare for the same journey doubles on the apps, because that is what demand pricing is for. The problem
The fare does not know it is Finals Day
This is the whole proposition and it is worth stating without decoration: your quoted fare on the middle Sunday is the fare on a wet Tuesday in February. No event multiplier, no demand pricing, no premium for the postcode being briefly famous. Surge exists to ration cars by willingness to pay, and it works, and we think it is a bad way to treat people on a day they have planned for months. We ration by booking early instead, which is why the pre-booked return matters more here than almost anywhere else.

Where a car can actually get to
During the Championships the roads immediately around the grounds are managed, and some are closed to general traffic entirely. That means the pickup and drop-off points are not the address you would type into a map — they are wherever the stewarding allows on that day, which can change between days and between morning and evening. We brief drivers on the current arrangement rather than sending them to a postcode and hoping, and we will tell you the meeting point when you book rather than at the moment you are trying to find it in a crowd. Confirm the day's restrictions with the organisers as well — the official guidance is the authority, not us.

Book the return before you go
The single most useful thing on this page. Everyone leaves at once, phone signal around a packed venue is unreliable, and the moment play ends is the moment every app in the area is at its most expensive and least available. A pre-booked return locks the fare, allocates the driver in advance, and gives you a named meeting point you can walk to rather than a live map you cannot load. Matches overrun constantly, so give us the loosest sensible time and we will build the wait in — that is expected here, not an exception.

Wimbledon travel is rarely solo. Four to eight people in one vehicle is almost always cheaper per head than the equivalent number of saloons, and considerably less coordination on a day with a lot of it already. Tell us the passenger count when you book rather than on the day — the larger vehicles are the ones that run out first during the fortnight, and by a wide margin.

Should I book my return in advance?
Yes, and this is the strongest advice on the page. Everyone leaves simultaneously, signal is poor and app pricing peaks exactly then. A pre-booked return fixes the fare and the meeting point in advance.
What if play overruns and I am late?
Expected — matches overrun constantly and we plan for it. Give us a generous estimate and we will build waiting in. You will not be charged extra for the sport being sport.
Can you take a group of eight?
Yes, in one vehicle, and it is usually cheaper per person than multiple cars. Book the larger vehicles early during the fortnight — they are the first to go.
