France entry rules for Eurostar travellers

Passport validity, biometric checks and what's changing — the door-to-Paris paperwork, verified August 2026.

For most non-EU travellers, including UK passport holders, entering France requires a passport issued within the last 10 years that remains valid at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area. Short tourist and business stays are visa-free for UK citizens within the 90-days-in-180 Schengen limit.

At the border

French entry checks happen at St Pancras before boarding, thanks to juxtaposed controls — including EES biometric registration (fingerprints and a photo), now in force. On arrival at Gare du Nord you simply walk off the train. ETIAS, the planned online authorisation, is not yet live and expected in 2027.

Before you book

Check your passport dates against both rules above — the 10-year issue rule catches people whose passports were renewed early. Entry rules can change, so verify against the official UK government guidance below close to travel.

Getting to St Pancras

Every Eurostar journey starts with reaching the station on time. Rushxo runs fixed-fare private hire across London and the UK, 24/7 — the quote is the fare, with no surge for early starts or late arrivals. Book a St Pancras transfer, WhatsApp us, or call 020 8888 9988.

Quick answers

Do UK citizens need a visa for France?

Not for short stays — tourism and most business trips are visa-free within the Schengen 90-days-in-180 limit. Your passport must meet the 10-year issue and 3-month validity rules.

Where do French passport checks happen on Eurostar?

At St Pancras, before you board — including EES fingerprints and photo. There are no further passport checks when you arrive in Paris.

Is ETIAS required for France in 2026?

No. ETIAS is not in operation and is now expected in 2027. Any website selling it today is not official.
