Staff & shift transport · England-wide
Your rota doesn't follow the timetable. Neither do we.
RushXO runs recurring staff transport for the hours public transport was never built for — night shift finishes, pre-dawn starts, and sites the last train never reaches. Named regular drivers, fixed contract rates that don't change at 4am, and one monthly invoice your finance team will actually enjoy.

The problem no one has named
The Rota Gap™ — the hours your workforce works but the timetable ignores
Britain's public transport is designed for a 9-to-5 country that stopped existing decades ago. The last train leaves before the night shift ends. The first bus arrives after the early shift starts. Industrial estates, distribution parks and hospital back entrances sit half a mile from the nearest stop — a long, dark walk at 2am. We call this structural mismatch the Rota Gap, and millions of workers live inside it every single week.
Employers usually plug the gap with luck: lift-sharing that collapses when someone's off, staff cars that fail MOTs, ad-hoc taxis that surge, cancel or simply don't show at 4am. Every gap-failure becomes an absence, a late start on the line, or a resignation. A scheduled shift run closes the gap permanently — and turns transport from your rota's weakest link into something nobody has to think about again.
Built from your rota, not our timetable
Send the shift pattern; we design the runs around it — including the 6-on-4-off cycles, alternating weeks and seasonal peaks that break normal transport arrangements.
Multi-pickup, sequenced properly
Home addresses or muster points routed efficiently, with MPVs and 8-seaters where the whole crew travels together — one vehicle instead of a string of single taxis.
Reliability you can put on a noticeboard
Drivers are allocated in advance, never on the night. The 02:00 car exists before the shift begins — which is exactly when your team needs to know it does.
Duty of care, in plain numbers
The Fatigue Mile — the most dangerous part of the shift is the journey home
Health and safety thinking usually stops at the factory gate. But the highest-risk task many night workers perform all week is driving themselves home afterwards — eyes heavy, reactions dulled, on empty roads that invite speed. HSE guidance is blunt about it: fatigue impairs performance the way alcohol does, and most people's body clocks never fully adapt to night work.
Providing transport after night shifts is one of the most direct duty-of-care controls an employer can put in place — cheaper than an incident, kinder than a policy document, and visible to every employee on the rota. It also shows up where HR can measure it: lateness, absence and turnover on unsociable shifts all track transport reliability more closely than most employers ever realise.
produces cognitive impairment comparable to a 0.05% blood alcohol level — around the drink-drive threshold. At 24 hours awake, it's equivalent to 0.10% — above it.
Fatigue research cited in HSE-related UK guidanceThe incidence of accidents and injuries is higher on night shifts, after successive shifts and on long shifts, according to the Health and Safety Executive.

From rota to running service in days
Send us the rota
Shift times, pickup points, headcount, and how the pattern rotates. WhatsApp it to +44 7466 237870 or talk it through on "020 8888 9988".
We fix the contract rate
A written rate per run — identical at 4am, on weekends and on bank holidays. No surge, no night premium, no small print that activates in winter.
Named drivers take the run
The same drivers wherever possible — they learn the gate, the badge procedure and the people. Familiar faces are a genuine safety feature for staff travelling alone at night.
The service repeats with the rota
Changes by message, cover for absences handled our side, and everything on one monthly invoice itemised by date, run and headcount — reconciled in minutes on your corporate account.
Who we move
The 4am workforce, sector by sector
Hospitals & care
Ward staff off at 2am, theatre teams in for 6:30, agency carers crossing town between clients. Runs timed to handover, not the hour — because wards don't empty on schedule.
Warehouses & logistics
Distribution parks built for lorries, not buses. Picker and packer runs across peak season, twilight shifts, and the estates where the walk from the nearest stop is the worst part of the job.
Airports & aviation
Ground crew, security and airside staff clocking in before the first departure — hours before the transport network wakes up. We already live at the airport; see our airport operation.
Manufacturing plants
Rotating three-shift patterns, plants on ring roads, changeovers at 6-2-10. Recurring runs that rotate with the pattern instead of breaking every time the cycle turns.
Hospitality & venues
Kitchen and bar teams finishing after the last train, event staff standing down at midnight when the venue clears. Safe, guaranteed rides home instead of a taxi-app lottery at closing time.
Security & facilities
Lone workers relieving posts at remote sites through the small hours. A pre-booked, tracked car with a known driver — not a stranger's vehicle summoned to a dark gatehouse.
The scale of the night workforce
The numbers behind the rota
UK workers — 27% of the entire workforce — usually work during the evening or night. The Rota Gap isn't a niche problem; it's a quarter of the labour market.
Source: ONS, night-time economy analysisBritish employees regularly work night shifts — over three million people clocking on and off while the transport network sleeps.
Source: TUC analysis of night workingUK workers are employed as shift workers, concentrated in exactly the sectors — health, logistics, manufacturing — where sites sit furthest from public transport.
Source: Health and Safety ExecutiveNearly nine million people work hours that public transport barely serves, and the sectors that employ them are the ones struggling hardest to recruit and retain. Employers who close the Rota Gap don't just fill tonight's shift — they remove one of the quietest, most persistent reasons people leave unsociable-hours jobs at all. Transport is a retention tool that shows up on a rota, not just a benefits page.
Coverage
Every estate, plant and site in England
Shift runs operate across all nine English regions and 41 counties — from Thames-side distribution parks and Midlands plants to Northern hospitals and airport campuses. Local drivers who know the gate, the estate and the shortest safe route home, on the same fixed-rate, one-invoice basis everywhere.
Questions HR & ops teams ask
Staff & shift transport, explained
How does a recurring shift run work?
You send the rota — pickup points, shift times, headcount, rotation pattern. We fix a written contract rate per run, assign named regular drivers, and the service repeats with the rota. Changes are handled by message, and everything lands on one itemised monthly invoice.
Do we get the same drivers every time?
Wherever possible, yes — that's the point. Named drivers learn the site entrance, the badge procedure and the passengers. For staff travelling alone at night, a familiar face in a known car is a genuine safety feature, not a nicety.
Is providing staff transport really a duty-of-care matter?
UK employers carry a general duty of care for employee safety, and HSE guidance treats fatigue as a serious workplace risk — research equates 17 hours awake with performance at around the drink-drive threshold. Transport home after night shifts is one of the most direct fatigue controls an employer can provide.
Can one run cover multiple pickups?
Yes — multi-pickup runs are standard. We sequence addresses or muster points into an efficient route, using MPVs and 8-seaters where a crew travels together, so one vehicle replaces a string of single taxis and the per-head cost drops sharply.
What does it cost?
A fixed contract rate per run, agreed in writing before the service starts — the same at 4am, on weekends and on bank holidays, with no surge and no night premium. WhatsApp your rota to +44 7466 237870 or call "020 8888 9988" for a quote, usually same day.
What happens if a shift overruns?
The driver waits — handover delays and late finishes are part of shift work, so sensible waiting is built into the run rather than billed as a surprise. If a whole rota moves, the runs move with it.
