London toAintree & the Grand National

The Randox Grand National Festival fills Aintree every April — the 2026 renewal on 11 April was won by I Am Maximus in front of a capacity crowd, and the 2027 festival runs 8–10 April. RushXO drives racegoers door to door from London, about 215 miles, with one fixed fare for the whole car and the return timed to the last race.

The 2026 Grand National was won on 11 April by I Am Maximus for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend — and the next Randox Grand National Festival is already confirmed for 8–10 April 2027. The 215-mile London to Aintree run is the classic case for pre-booking: a RushXO transfer carries your party door-to-door in one vehicle, drops at the set-down for your enclosure under the raceday plan, and has the return agreed before the first race — while National-day trains heave and every app surges.

The Festival

Three Days, Eleven Grade Ones, One Famous Race

The Grand National Festival runs over three days each April — Opening Day, Ladies Day and Grand National Day — with the big race itself going off at 4pm on the Saturday over 30 fences and four and a quarter miles. The 2026 running was taken by I Am Maximus for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend; the 2027 festival is confirmed for 8–10 April, and transfer bookings are already open.

From London it is roughly 215 miles up the M40/M6 to Aintree in Merseyside — 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes by car. Race trains into Liverpool are rammed and the Merseyrail shuttle to Aintree station queues long after the last race; a pre-booked car removes both.

Race-Day Plan

Drop-Off, Hospitality and the Drive Home

Your driver sets you down as close to the Ormskirk Road entrances as race-day closures allow and agrees the matching pickup point for the evening. Hospitality guests with early access are collected from London pre-dawn; overnight packages with a Liverpool hotel stop are quoted as one fixed price.

For groups, an 8-seater splits the fixed fare to about £61 per person each way — competitive with peak race-day rail, but with the suits, hats and champagne travelling with you, and nobody standing on a packed 7am train out of Euston.

How Much Is a Taxi London to Aintree?

RushXO prices the journey on genuine road distance, with a long-distance taper that keeps the per-mile rate fair across the full 215 miles rather than charging a flat town rate the whole way. A saloon starts from around £330, quoted as a single fixed figure for the vehicle, not per person, with all tolls included:

MPVUp to 6 passengers£395
8-Seater MinibusUp to 7 passengers£440

The route

The London to Aintree Route

Your Journey, Road by Road

From London we run the M1 to the M6, north past Birmingham and through Cheshire, then the M62/M57 for the approach to Aintree on Liverpool’s northern edge. Around 215 miles, typically 4 hours with a comfort stop — and on Grand National day the final miles run under a full event traffic plan that our drivers know.

The return is agreed before you go in: your driver positioned for the post-racing exodus so the journey home starts when you want it to.

A Fixed Fare With No Surge, Ever

On-demand apps apply surge pricing that peaks exactly when you most need to travel — early mornings, late nights, event finishes and bad weather — and on a 215 miles run that surge applies to the whole fare. A RushXO fare does the opposite: calculated on genuine road distance, quoted as a single fixed figure at booking, and never altered. No surge multiplier, no peak uplift, no night premium, no Bank Holiday surcharge. Whatever the traffic does, the driver absorbs the delay; your fare does not move.

About London — Your Starting Point

London is where almost every long-distance journey in Britain begins, and it is also where collection logistics matter most. RushXO collects door-to-door from every borough — a Mayfair hotel, a Canary Wharf office, a family home in Croydon or a hall of residence in Camden — with the pickup order planned for groups and the departure time planned around live traffic on the route’s exit motorway. There is no rank to find and no app lottery: a named, licensed chauffeur arrives at your door at the time the journey actually needs.

About Aintree & the Grand National — Your Destination

Aintree Racecourse is the home of the Grand National, the world’s most famous steeplechase. The 2026 running was won on 11 April 2026 by I Am Maximus for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend, and the next Randox Grand National Festival is confirmed for 8–10 April 2027 — with travel plans for the big Saturday best locked in early, because everything around Aintree sells and surges on National day.

Raceday from London, solved

Trains into Liverpool on National day are rammed and the Merseyrail shuttle to Aintree more so; driving yourself means event parking and a long crawl out. A pre-booked RushXO transfer is door-to-door in one vehicle — a group splits one fixed fare, the dress code survives the journey, and the ride home is guaranteed at the moment 70,000 other people are opening the same surge-priced app.

Timed to the Event, Not the Clock

Event transfers live or die on timing. For Aintree we plan your London pickup backwards from gate, kick-off or curtain time using realistic traffic for that day and hour, with a sensible buffer for event-day congestion around the venue. On the return, your driver is positioned at the agreed pickup point as the event ends — with the patience built in for the crowd to clear — so you are not bidding against thousands of others for a surge-priced car.

Round Trips & Waiting on Site

Many guests book the day as a round trip: out, the event itself, and home with the same driver. Waiting time on site can be included in a single fixed quote, which usually beats two separate bookings and guarantees the journey home at the moment you most want certainty. Tell us the event schedule and we will quote the whole day as one figure.

Group & Family Travel

For families and groups, the journey is far simpler in one vehicle than split across cars or managed by train with its changes and connections. A single RushXO MPV or 8–9-seater carries everyone and all the luggage door-to-door for one fixed fare — frequently cheaper per head than the equivalent rail tickets, and far less stressful. Child seats and boosters are provided free on request; just tell us the ages and number of children at booking.

Travel Safely — Pre-Booked, Licensed, Accountable

A pre-booked RushXO transfer means your driver is named and identifiable to you in advance, holds an enhanced DBS check as a condition of their TfL Private Hire licence, and operates a fully insured, logged vehicle. You receive the driver’s name, number, and the vehicle’s make, model and registration before pickup. A female chauffeur can be requested for lone or late-night travellers.

Luggage, Equipment & Special Requirements

A saloon comfortably takes two large cases and two cabin bags; an MPV or minibus swallows a group’s worth of suitcases and equipment. If you are travelling with unusual or bulky items — golf clubs, ski gear, a folded wheelchair, a musical instrument — tell us at booking and we will allocate the right vehicle so nothing is left on the pavement. Assistance dogs travel as standard, and other pets can usually be accommodated with advance notice.

Your Travel Day, Step by Step

Knowing exactly how the day will unfold takes much of the stress out of it. Here is how a typical booking with RushXO runs from start to finish.

  • The day before: you receive a confirmation with your driver’s name, contact number, and the vehicle’s make, model, colour and registration. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
  • Collection: your chauffeur arrives a few minutes early at your London address and confirms the day’s timings before setting off.
  • The journey: a clean, recent-model car with water and charging, while your driver handles the M1, M6 and M62/M57 and the event-day traffic plan. Every toll is already inside your fixed fare.
  • Arrival: you are dropped at the closest practical set-down to the entrance for your tickets, with walking directions if barriers are in place.
  • The return: your driver is waiting at the agreed pickup point after the event — no app roulette, no surge, no long taxi queue.

Taxi, Train or Drive Yourself? Why a Transfer Wins

  • Versus the train: rail plus local connections to Aintree means timetables that rarely match event schedules — and last trains that leave before the day truly ends. A transfer runs on your itinerary, door to door.
  • Versus driving yourself: event-day parking is scarce, pre-booked and a long walk away — and someone has to stay sober and fight the car-park queue out. A transfer removes all three problems.
  • Versus an on-demand app: when an event ends, thousands of people open the same app at the same moment — prices surge and matches fail. A pre-booked RushXO driver is already positioned, at a fare locked weeks earlier.

Why London Travellers Choose RushXO

Your driver is TfL-licensed, DBS-checked and route-experienced, and you know their name and vehicle before you travel. Frequently asked

London to the Grand National — Your Questions

When is the next Grand National?

The 2027 Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree runs Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 April 2027, with the Grand National itself on the Saturday. The 2026 race took place on 11 April 2026 and was won by I Am Maximus.

How much is a taxi from London to Aintree?

Fixed one-way fares start at £330 for a saloon and £490 for an 8-seater minibus — whole vehicle, tolls included, locked at booking with no festival surcharge.

How long is the drive from London?

Around 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes via the M40 and M6, depending on traffic. Many racegoers travel up the evening before; we can include a Liverpool hotel drop in the same fixed fare.

Can you bring us back after the last race?

Yes — the return pickup point is agreed in advance and the driver waits as the crowds clear. You leave when you are ready, not when a packed race train departs.

Do you cover Ladies Day and Opening Day too?

All three festival days, plus Aintree’s other meetings through the year. Tell us the day and your enclosure and we plan the set-down around it.

Is a group minibus cheaper than the train?

Usually for groups of five or more — an 8-seater works out near £61 per person each way from central London, door to door, with no Euston scramble or Merseyrail shuttle queues.
