Lingfield Park transfers, the racecourse on our doorstep
Lingfield races more days of the year than almost any course in Britain, it sits about half an hour from most of west Kent, and hardly anybody thinks to book a car for it. That combination makes it the best-value day at the races in the South East.
An all-weather track alongside a turf course means racing through winter as well as summer, including floodlit evening fixtures. When everywhere else is frozen off in January, Lingfield is usually still going.
Two surfaces, one course, twelve months of fixtures
Lingfield's dual layout is the reason it never really stops, and it makes for four quite different kinds of day depending on when you go.
Winter racing
The floodlit polytrack keeps racing on through the cold months when turf meetings elsewhere are abandoned. Small crowds, cheap entry and a genuinely good afternoon.
Summer flat racing
The traditional grass course through the warmer months, including the trial meetings that point towards Epsom in June.
Floodlit and summer fixtures
After-work racing, a short journey from Kent and home at a reasonable hour. One of the easiest evenings out we run.
Themed and holiday fixtures
Bank holiday meetings with entertainment for children. Daytime traffic, easy access and a lot of stuff to carry back to the car.

This is the shortest run of any course we cover apart from our own local circuit, and the numbers explain why Lingfield is such an easy sell for a spontaneous afternoon.

Who we take to Lingfield
Because it is cheap, close and races constantly, the bookings here look nothing like Ascot or Cheltenham. They are smaller, more frequent and more spontaneous.

Why the close one is the underrated one
Cheap racing is still racing
There is a tendency to think a day at the races has to mean a festival meeting with a dress code and a three-figure ticket. It does not. Midweek all-weather racing at Lingfield costs a fraction of that, the racing is competitive, and you can stand by the rail rather than a hundred yards back. For a first raceday, or a low-key work outing, it is a far better introduction than being one of eighty thousand at Ascot.
The short journey changes what is possible
At forty-five minutes from north Kent, an evening meeting genuinely works after a day at the office. Leave at five, first race at six, home by half ten. That is not achievable at any of the bigger courses from our patch, and it means Lingfield fixtures suit the kind of spontaneous booking that Cheltenham never will.
Winter is the point, not the problem
When the turf meetings across the South East start getting abandoned in January, Lingfield keeps racing under floodlights on the all-weather. A cold, bright afternoon at a small course with a decent crowd and a hot drink is one of the better winter days out available, and the fares are lower because we are not competing with festival demand.
Combining it with an evening
A good number of our Lingfield bookings are the first half of a longer night: racing in the afternoon, then on somewhere in Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks or back into Kent afterwards. Because the course is close to home, that works without anyone facing a two-hour journey at the end of it. Price it as one job and it is cheaper than two.

How far is Lingfield from Kent?
Closer than most people realise. Sixteen miles from Sevenoaks, around thirty from Gravesend, forty from Medway. It is comfortably the nearest major racecourse to our patch and the journey is straightforward in both directions.
Does Lingfield race in winter?
Yes, and that is one of its main attractions. The all-weather track keeps racing going through the cold months under floodlights when turf fixtures elsewhere are being abandoned. Winter meetings are cheap, well attended and easy to get to.
Can you do an evening meeting after work?
Comfortably. Leave Kent around five, be there for the first race, home by half ten. The short journey is what makes this possible here and not at the bigger courses.
Is it worth booking a car for such a short trip?
If you intend to have a drink, yes, and that is the usual reason. Split between four or six people it is inexpensive, and it means nobody spends the afternoon on soft drinks or worrying about the drive back.
Can we go on somewhere afterwards?
Yes, and a lot of groups do. Racing then dinner or a night out in Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks or back home, all priced as a single job, which works out cheaper than booking two separate trips.
Do you cover the big days as well?
Yes, including the spring trial meetings that point towards Epsom and the bank holiday family fixtures. Those days are busier and worth booking a little further ahead, though nothing like Ascot or Cheltenham.
Can you take a work group?
Yes. Midweek team days at Lingfield are one of our steadier bookings, usually in a minibus, and they can be invoiced on account with a VAT receipt for expenses.
Is the fare fixed?
Yes, agreed at booking. A late finish, an extra race or staying for a drink afterwards make no difference to what you pay.
Is there parking at the course?
There is, and on a quiet midweek fixture it is genuinely easy. The reason to book us is the drinking rather than the parking, which is a different argument from the big festival courses.
Do you book regular fixtures for racing clubs?
Yes. Several groups book a series of dates across a season with us, which keeps the pricing consistent and means the vehicle is held rather than fought over each time.
