Southampton: four terminals, not one
Southampton is Britain's busiest cruise port and it operates several separate terminals across two dock areas. Giving us the ship name is not enough, because ships move between terminals, and the wrong one means driving several miles round a working port on the morning you sail.
Ocean, Mayflower, QEII and Horizon, spread across the Western and Eastern Docks. Your cruise documents name the one you need, and it is the single most useful thing you can tell us when you book.

One of the main terminals. Check your documents rather than assuming.

Sailing from Southampton
The terminal is the one thing we really need
Four terminals across two dock areas, ships reassigned between sailings, and a working port that is several miles across. Your cruise documents name the terminal. Without it we are guessing, and a guess on the morning of a sailing is not something anybody wants.
This is a road we know very well
Southampton is one of our most frequent long runs, and the M3 and M27 behave predictably in ways we can plan around. That is worth something on a journey where arriving late is not recoverable, and it is why the fixed fare reflects a route we understand rather than one we are estimating.
A day return works for most check-in windows
At around two to two and a half hours from most of Kent, a midday or early afternoon check-in means leaving at a civilised hour rather than staying over. Very early sailings are the exception and our cruise guide covers when a hotel starts to make sense.
Book the return with the outbound
Ships dock early and disembarkation runs in waves, and arranging the homeward leg from the ship is harder than arranging it now. We book both together and plan the return around a realistic disembarkation rather than the scheduled docking time.

Not reliably. Ships are assigned to terminals per sailing, so the same ship may use a different terminal from last time. Give us the terminal from your paperwork.
How far is Southampton from Kent?
Around a hundred to a hundred and fifty miles, roughly two to three and a half hours each way on the M25, M3 and M27.
Do we need a hotel the night before?
For most midday and afternoon check-ins, no. Very early sailings are the exception and our cruise guide covers when it makes sense.
What time should we leave Kent?
We plan backwards from your check-in window with margin. For a one o'clock check-in from north Kent that is usually around half nine.
Do you know this route well?
